The Institute for Cultural Research of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine celebrates World Embroidery Day
May 15, 2025

On May 15, 2025, the Institute’s employees joined a nationwide flashmob in elegant colorful outfits, the patterns of which represent different regions of Ukraine.
The Institute’s team, headed by Academician Hanna CHMIL, is proud of the presence among the scientists of the outstanding ethnoculturalist, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Yevhen PRYCHEPII, who works on the topic “Regional Research and Comparative Studies of Ukrainian ethnoculture: archaic roots, structure, semantics” and has been collecting and studying samples of Ukrainian embroidery for many decades. The illustrated monograph “Embroidery of Eastern Podillia”, published by Yevhen Prychepii in 2023 (co-authored with his wife Tetyana), is an impressive and fascinating decoding of symbols and signs on the ornaments of rushniks (embroidered towels) and vyshyvankas (embroidered shirts) of Vinnytsia Transnistria. The Prychepii family donated most of their collection to the Ivan Honchar Museum in Kyiv, where an exhibition dedicated to the scientist’s 85th birthday was held in February-March 2025.

The Institute’s staff is awaiting the appearance of a new monograph by Yevhen Prychepii on the symbolism of ancient Ukrainian artifacts, which should be the result of fundamental scientific research.
